PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen To Lead Indian Team At Asia Mixed Team Championship
January 22, 2025: India has announced a 14-member squad for the upcoming Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025, set to take place in Qingdao, China, from February 11-16. The Indian team will be led by two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and Paris Olympics semi-finalist Lakshya Sen, both of whom are among the country’s top badminton stars.
India will be looking to improve on their bronze medal finish from the previous edition of the championship, which was held in Dubai in 2023. With a strong squad in place, the team aims to go further this time, with the ultimate goal of reaching the finals and competing for the title.
The squad has been selected based on current form and world rankings, with key players like HS Prannoy and Malvika Bansod joining the team as the second men’s and women’s singles players, respectively. The men’s doubles will be led by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who are former world No. 1, while the women’s doubles will feature Gayatri Gopichand, Treesa Jolly, Ashwini Ponnappa, and Tanisha Crasto.
In mixed doubles, Tanisha Crasto will pair up with Dhruv Kapila, and the second mixed doubles team will consist of Sathish Kumar K and Adya Variyath.
Sanjay Mishra, Secretary General of the Badminton Association of India, emphasized that while the team had done well by winning a bronze medal two years ago, this year’s focus is on reaching the finals and giving their best in the competition.
The squad will compete against top Asian teams, and all eyes will be on India as they aim for a better performance than last year.
