Ravichandran Ashiwn Bids Adieu To IPL, Announces Retirement

Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from the IPL after a 17-year career, bringing an end to his time with Chennai Super Kings.

August 27, 2025: Ravichandran Ashwin, a famous Indian spinner who has been in the Indian Premier competition since it started, has said that he is leaving the competition.

The 38-year-old said on his official X (previously Twitter) account on Wednesday that he was ending his lengthy and successful career as one of the tournament’s best bowlers.

Ashwin said in a touching note, “It’s a special day, so it’s a special start.” “People say that every finish is a new start. Today is my last day as an IPL cricketer, but it’s also my first day as an explorer of the game in other leagues.

He praised the IPL, the BCCI, and all the teams he played for throughout the years for their aid. The last time he played in the league was with the Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 season, which just ended.

Ashwin joined the IPL in 2009 with the Chennai Super Kings. He has played for four different teams since then: the Punjab Kings, the Delhi Capitals, the Rajasthan Royals, and the Rising Pune Super Giants. He played in 221 games throughout the course of his 17-year career and took 187 wickets, making him one of the top five wicket-takers in league history. He was also a good lower-order batter, getting 833 runs. Ashwin won the IPL twice with CSK, in 2010 and 2011. He was known for his great strategies and for tricking batsmen.

He is no longer an IPL cricketer, but his post suggests that a new chapter in his career is about to begin. It seems like he will keep playing in other T20 tournaments throughout the world.
