Ravichandran Ashwin Going To Play For ‘CSK’ After Announcing Retirement

December 19, 2024: After his emotional retirement announcement, Ravichandran Ashwin opened up about his decision and shared that stepping away from international cricket brought him a “great sense of relief and satisfaction.”

The celebrated off-spinner reflected on his decision, saying it had been on his mind for some time. He explained, “It had been running in my head for a while but it was very instinctive. I felt it on day 4 and called it on day 5.” His words reflect the thoughtfulness behind his decision, even though it came quite suddenly for fans and the cricketing community alike.

Ashwin’s announcement came moments after the Brisbane Test ended in a draw on Wednesday, marking the final chapter of his illustrious career in international cricket. The 38-year-old cricketer admitted that the moment was emotional, not just for him but for his loved ones and teammates as well. He added, “It’s emotional for a lot of people. It will be emotional, maybe it will sink in.”

Despite bidding farewell to international cricket, Ashwin confirmed that his journey is far from over, especially in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He expressed excitement about rejoining the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2025. He said, “I am going to play for CSK and don’t be surprised if I try and aspire to play for as long as I can.” While Ashwin may have retired from international duties, he made it clear that his passion for the game remains strong, and his commitment to domestic cricket and IPL continues.

He further clarified, “I don’t think Ashwin the cricketer is done, I think Ashwin the Indian cricketer has probably called it time. That’s it.” This statement underscores that while he has closed the door on representing India at the international level, he remains eager to contribute to the sport in different capacities.

Ashwin’s retirement marks the end of a monumental career for India, but his decision to continue playing in the IPL ensures that his fans will still get to see him shine on the field for years to come. His legacy as one of India’s greatest spinners will undoubtedly inspire future generations of cricketers.
