After nearly three months of social media silence, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has issued a heartfelt letter to its fans. The franchise announced the launch of a new initiative, ‘RCB Cares,’ in response to the tragic stampede that occurred during their title celebrations.
August 28, 2025: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise has finally spoken up on social media, almost three months after a horrible stampede killed 11 supporters during the team’s IPL win celebrations.
On Thursday, RCB sent a touching message on its official X (previously Twitter) account to announce the start of a new program called “RCB Cares.”
The tragedy happened on June 4, the day after the franchise won its first IPL title. Outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a ceremony was supposed to take place, a huge crowd crush killed 11 individuals and hurt 56 more. The event resulted to a government investigation with a FIR being filed against RCB, the people who put on the event, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
RCB’s last public post was a short message of condolence on June 5. Since then, they haven’t posted anything on social media. In a new post, the franchise explained why they hadn’t been around by writing a passionate letter to their supporters, which they name the “12th Man Army.”
“It’s been almost three months since we last posted here.” The silence wasn’t a lack of sound. The statement said, “It was Grief.” “That day devastated our hearts, and the stillness since then has been our way of holding space. We’ve been sad in that silence. Listening. Getting smarter. And little by little, we’ve started to develop something greater than just an answer. Something we really believe in. That’s how RCB Cares got started.
The new project is called “a platform for meaningful action” and its goals are to honor the victims, heal the community, and stand with the fans. RCB’s leaders had already said they will pay the family of the dead ₹10 lakh and help the injured.
The franchise finished their letter by saying, “We return to this space today, not with celebration but with care.” They promised to give further information about the new project. To give. To be there for you. To move forward as one. To keep becoming Karnataka’s pride. RCB Cares. And we always will.
