Cricketer remembers father after India’s T20 World Cup 2026 triumph
March 10, 2026: Amid celebrations of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 victory, Indian batter Rinku Singh shared an emotional tribute to his father, Khanchand Singh, who passed away just days before the final. Khanchand Singh died on February 27, 2026, at the age of 60 after battling Stage 4 liver cancer. Rinku, who played a key role in India’s title-winning campaign against New Zealand, revealed that the achievement carried a deeply personal meaning for him.
In a heartfelt Instagram post that quickly went viral, the cricketer reflected on the void left by his father’s passing. Sharing a photo with him, Rinku said the gold medal symbolised the fulfilment of a promise made during his journey from Aligarh to international cricket. He wrote that he had never gone so many days without speaking to his father and admitted that the joy of becoming a world champion felt incomplete without his biggest supporter.
Rinku added that his father had always taught him that “duty comes before everything,” a lesson that kept him focused throughout the tournament. The tribute drew an outpouring of support from the cricketing fraternity, including former India cricketer Suresh Raina. While India celebrated a dominant 96-run victory in the final, Rinku’s message highlighted the personal sacrifices and emotional journeys behind the success of the Men in Blue.
