After Lucknow Super Giants suffered a defeat against Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2026 opener, an on-field interaction between skipper Rishabh Pant, head coach Justin Langer, and team owner Sanjiv Goenka sparked widespread discussion on social media.

In the match played at the Ekana Stadium, LSG were bowled out for just 141, before Delhi chased down the target comfortably, thanks to Sameer Rizvi’s unbeaten 70.

Following the loss, videos circulating online showed Goenka in what appeared to be an intense conversation with Pant on the field, with Langer also joining in. The clip quickly went viral, drawing comparisons to a previous high-profile exchange between Goenka and KL Rahul after LSG’s defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.

However, LSG later shared another video offering a different perspective on the same moment. In the clip, Pant and Goenka are seen sharing a light moment and laughing. The franchise captioned the post: “Not everything you see is the true story. Here’s the unfiltered post-match vibes, when cameras don’t cut,” suggesting that the earlier footage may have been misinterpreted.

Goenka also took to social media to back the team, expressing confidence despite the defeat. “This is a long season, and moments like these are part of building something meaningful. I have full confidence in our captain and the team to respond with strength,” he wrote, thanking fans for their support and promising a strong comeback.

Meanwhile, Pant addressed questions about his batting position after the match. The LSG captain, who opened the innings in the game but managed just 7 runs before being run out, described the decision as a “50-50 call.”

“I think it’s a 50-50 call, but we’ll see. You’ll definitely see me in the top order,” Pant said.

The move to promote Pant as an opener led to a reshuffle in the batting lineup. Aiden Markram, who had a successful opening partnership with Mitchell Marsh last season, was pushed down to No. 3. Markram had scored 445 runs at a strike rate of 148.82 in IPL 2025.

Additionally, explosive batter Nicholas Pooran was moved down from his preferred No. 3 position, where he had amassed 524 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 196.25 last season.

With the tournament still in its early stages, LSG will be looking to fine-tune their combinations and bounce back strongly in the upcoming matches.
