Rishabh Pant To Be Ruled Out Of England Tour?

Star Wicketkeeper-Batter Rushed to Hospital for Scans. Injury Casts Major Doubt on His Remaining Participation in Series

July 24, 2025: Rishabh Pant, India’s vice-captain and top wicketkeeper-batter, could have to cut his trip to England short because he hurt his right foot badly on Day 1 of the 4th Test at Old Trafford. This event has made India’s already injury-plagued campaign look much worse. They are currently behind 1-2 in the series.

Pant was batting well on 37 when he tried to hit a reverse-sweep off a delivery from right-arm bowler Chris Woakes in the 68th over of India’s innings. He only got an inside edge, and the ball hit him right on the boot. Even though England’s LBW appeal was rejected down (DRS verified the inside edge), Pant was clearly in a lot of agony, limping and unable to put any weight on his foot. The swelling and pain that were immediately obvious were big problems.

Pant Rushed to the Hospital for Scans

The Indian team’s physiotherapist ran to the center to help Pant. Because the agony was so bad and he couldn’t put weight on it, the 27-year-old was eventually wheeled off the field in a golf-style buggy and taken to a medical facility on the field for an instant evaluation. People saw Shubman Gill, the captain of the Indian Test team, checking on him. Later, the BCCI said that Pant had been transferred to a hospital for scans and that their medical team was keeping an eye on his progress.

Liam Dawson and Ricky Ponting voice their worries

Experts and players have said they are worried, even though an official information on the extent of his injuries is coming later today. Ricky Ponting, a famous Australian cricketer, said that the “immediate swelling” and Pant’s inability to put any weight on his foot were troubling signals that it could be a metatarsal injury. “He scarcely put his foot down. I was worried about the swelling right away. I’ve hurt my metatarsals before, and they are small, weak bones. Ponting said on Sky Sports, “It doesn’t look good at all that he couldn’t put any weight on it.”

Liam Dawson, an all-rounder for England, also said he was worried, saying, “The injury didn’t look good.” I hope he’s okay. He is a really excellent player, but I don’t think he will be able to play much more.

Pant had already hurt himself on this trip before. During England’s first innings of the third Test at Lord’s, he damaged his finger while keeping wickets. Dhruv Jurel then took over as wicketkeeper. Pant played in both innings of that game and was later given the all-clear to play in the 4th Test. However, this most recent injury seems to be more worse and might keep him out of the rest of the series.

India will be very nervous about the findings of Pant’s scans because if he is out, their chances of tying the series will be greatly reduced.
