Roger Binny Tenure Ends, Steps Down As BCCI President

Rajeev Shukla, the BCCI’s Vice-President, has taken charge as the acting chief after Roger Binny’s tenure ended due to the board’s age-limit rule. Shukla’s first major challenge is finding a new sponsor for the Indian team before the Asia Cup.

August 29, 2025: Rajeev Shukla, who used to be the Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is now the interim president. The folks in charge have changed a lot. Roger Binny, a former Indian cricketer, had to leave his job as President when his time was over since that’s what the board’s rules specified he had to do.

Shukla led a recent meeting of the Apex Council, where the main issue was a serious problem with sponsorship. The committee discussed about how to break Dream11’s contract and how crucial it is to find a new sponsor for the Indian team soon away. But the Asia Cup starts on September 9, so it’s still impossible to find a replacement in time.

A source at the BCCI said, “We don’t even have two weeks left.” We are doing our best, but it will take time to get a new tender started, finish the legal paperwork, and take care of the details. We won’t get a short-term sponsor just for the Asia Cup. We want to find a sponsor for the next two and a half years, till the ODI World Cup in October and November 2027.

The BCCI’s rules say that no one can be an office-bearer when they turn 70, therefore the leadership has to reshuffle. Roger Binny was elected in October 2022, and on July 19, 2025, he reached 70, which meant he couldn’t serve anymore.

The National Sports Governance Act has been passed, and one of its parts raises the age limit for persons who hold office to 75. But the law hasn’t been made public yet. The new law doesn’t change the rules that are already in place, so the BCCI will still have to hold its Annual General Meeting and elections next month. Until the law goes into effect, the board and its state associations must keep using the constitution that the Supreme Court approved. This constitution provides a rule about how long persons can serve in office.
