March 11, 2025: Following India’s unbeaten run in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma expressed confidence in the future of Indian cricket, highlighting the wealth of young talent emerging in the team.

The successful campaign saw several current and future stars stepping up to play key roles. Players like Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Varun Chakravarthy delivered stellar performances, contributing significantly to India’s second consecutive white-ball title victory.

Rohit praised the team’s passion and commitment, noting that the team’s success in the Champions Trophy, remaining unbeaten throughout, was a reflection of the hunger and talent that the younger generation of Indian cricketers is bringing to the international stage. He expressed optimism for the team’s long-term future, especially with the emerging talents across all formats.

When asked about India’s potential to dominate international cricket in the coming decade, Rohit acknowledged that the team setup was designed to nurture and support young talent. He explained that in the last few years, opportunities have been given to many players, and they’ve seized those chances. This, he believes, will allow the team to maintain its strength and competitiveness.

Rohit also pointed out that the growing debate around which players should be selected for the starting eleven is a positive indication of the depth of talent within the team. “When you are discussing about which player to pick, who to drop, who is going to miss out on the opening eleven, that tells you there is so much depth in this team,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Indian team has two major global events in the next two years — the T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, and the Cricket World Cup in 2027. While Rohit hopes to be part of both teams, he believes that the platform has been set for the Indian team to continue its dominance on the international stage.

“The future of Indian cricket is in very, very safe hands,” Rohit concluded, citing the young players’ passion, talent, and desire to take responsibility for the team’s success.1
