Rohit Sharma Honoured With Padma Shri
Former India captain calls award a special moment, vows to keep winning matches for the country
February 3, 2026: Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed gratitude after being conferred with the Padma Shri, describing it as a special moment for him and his family. Thanking the Government of India and everyone who supported his cricketing journey, Rohit said his commitment to winning matches and trophies for the country would continue. His message was shared in a video by Doordarshan Sports on X, where he reflected on the honour with pride and humility.
Rohit has been one of India’s most consistent performers since making his international debut in 2007, leaving a lasting impact both as a batter and a leader. Under his captaincy, India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 by defeating South Africa in the final, ending a long ICC title drought in the shortest format. The team followed it up with a Champions Trophy triumph in 2025, further underlining Rohit’s success as captain.
As a batter, Rohit boasts an impressive international record across formats. He has scored over 4,300 runs in 67 Tests, more than 11,500 runs in 282 ODIs, and over 4,200 runs in T20 Internationals, making him one of India’s most prolific run-scorers. Having retired from Tests and T20Is, Rohit continues to represent India in ODIs and is aiming to feature in the 2027 World Cup.
