Rohit Sharma Toils In Nets Ahead Of Ranji Trophy Clash

January 22, 2025: Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has resumed his domestic cricket commitments ahead of Mumbai’s second-round Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. On Wednesday, he began practice with his Mumbai teammates in preparation for the match, which will be held from January 23 to 26 at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) shared a photo of Rohit with the caption “The Hitman show,” marking his return to domestic cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s last appearance in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai was in November 2015, where he scored a memorable 113 against Uttar Pradesh. His return to the tournament comes after a challenging period in international cricket, where his performances in the 2024-25 Test season have drawn some concerns. During India’s recent tour of Australia, Rohit struggled with the bat, managing only 31 runs in five innings across three Tests. Additionally, in the 2024-25 season, he scored only 164 runs in eight matches at an average of 10.93, with a solitary half-century against Bangladesh.

Despite these challenges in his Test career, Rohit’s leadership has been pivotal, with India recovering from a 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand to a resounding 295-run victory in the first Test against Australia at Perth under the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit returned to the team after the birth of his second child.

Rohit’s inclusion in the Mumbai squad for the upcoming Ranji match has been confirmed by the MCA, with a senior selection committee announcement on January 20. The Mumbai squad for the fixture includes Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and others, alongside Rohit Sharma, who will be looking to regain form ahead of future international assignments.
