Russell Westbrook Back on the Market—Is This His Last NBA Stop?
July 20, 2025: After a strong bounce-back season with the Denver Nuggets, former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook is once again a free agent. The 36-year-old declined his second-year player option, opting to test the market in what could be the final chapter of his storied career.
Westbrook’s journey since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder has been turbulent—playing for five teams in six seasons. But his time in Denver was a surprising revival. Averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, he reminded fans and critics alike that his high-octane style still has value.

Despite past struggles with the Lakers and Clippers, where he became an easy target for blame, Westbrook’s relentless energy remains unmatched. According to Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz, he’s the second-best bargain free agent available, just behind Chris Paul. Swartz noted, “Westbrook isn’t an easy fit with most teams… but his ceiling is still the highest of any unrestricted free agent.”
Westbrook is still chasing that elusive NBA championship, and while his options may be limited, he’s arguably the most talented player left unsigned. The question now: which team will take one final chance on the former MVP?
