January 12, 2025: Bangladesh has made some notable changes to their squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, leaving out experienced players Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan.
Litton Das, who has struggled for form in recent months, has been excluded after a prolonged dry run in ODIs. He has not managed to score a fifty in his last 13 innings, and six out of his last seven innings were single-digit scores.
Shakib Al Hasan's exclusion comes amidst his bowling suspension. The seasoned all-rounder has been suspended from bowling in ICC events due to an illegal bowling action, which he failed to correct after a second independent assessment.
Other notable exclusions include Afif Hossain, Shoriful Islam, and Hasan Mahmud.
Despite these omissions, Mahmudullah retains his place, and the squad sees the return of Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain after recovering from a hamstring injury. Other returnees are Mushfiqur Rahim, Towhid Hridoy, and Mustafizur Rahman.
The biggest surprise inclusion is Parvez Hossain Emon, who has been called up for the first time for the ODI format after previously playing in T20Is. Another exciting inclusion is Nahid Rana, a young pace bowler who impressed in his recent debut series against the West Indies, taking 4 wickets in 3 ODIs.
Bangladesh will kick off their Champions Trophy campaign against last year's finalists on February 20 in Dubai.
