Shardul Thakur Speaks on Shreyas Iyer’s Omission and India-Pakistan Clash
Mumbai, August 23: Indian bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has assured fans that Team India will give its absolute best in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, beginning September 9. Speaking on the sidelines of the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum’s inauguration at Wankhede Stadium, Shardul reflected on the tournament’s importance and the much-anticipated clash against Pakistan on September 14.
“India-Pakistan is always a big match – not just for cricketers but for the entire country,” Shardul said in an interview with ANI. “The Asia Cup holds immense importance in a player’s career. Before the World Cup, this tournament boosts confidence, and we as a team will give our 100 percent. All the players will have full support from each other.”
One of the biggest talking points ahead of the Asia Cup has been the omission of Shreyas Iyer, despite his stellar performance in IPL 2025, where he led Punjab Kings to their first final in 10 years. Addressing the issue, Shardul remained diplomatic but supportive:
“Selection is the board’s decision, not mine. As players, we cannot interfere. But Shreyas is mentally very strong. I’m confident whenever he gets his chance again, he will perform brilliantly,” he said.
The day also marked a historic moment for Mumbai cricket with the opening of the Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum. Shardul called it a proud day, stating that it will inspire the next generation.
“This museum is a reminder of Mumbai’s glorious cricketing past. Jerseys, memorabilia, and stories of greats who started here will motivate young cricketers,” he shared. “Seeing the history of how legends rose from this city to represent India will give kids a new dream.”
As Team India gears up for the Asia Cup, the excitement is already building – not just for the tournament, but for the legendary rivalry that continues to unite and electrify millions across borders.
