Shikhar Dhawan Reflects On Retirement: ‘Felt Happy, I Didn’t Cry’; Open to Future Commentary Role

February 12, 2025: Former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan recently revealed his emotions regarding his retirement from international and domestic cricket, explaining that he felt “happy” instead of emotional as he embarked on a new chapter in life. Dhawan made the announcement on August 24 via social media, marking a quiet departure without the typical farewells associated with retirement.

Despite not experiencing the usual emotional send-off, Dhawan expressed his gratitude for the love and support he received from fans and former cricketers. Reflecting on his retirement, Dhawan stated, “I felt happy. Yeah, I felt happy. I didn’t cry. I was in Shukrana (gratitude).”

Now focusing on business and franchise cricket, Dhawan is also exploring new avenues within the game, including the possibility of taking up commentary. “I can go for commentary as well, you never know. If it suits me, I will be open to it,” he said.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dhawan was a prolific run-scorer, especially in ODIs. He played 167 matches, amassing 6,793 runs at an average of 44.1, including 17 centuries and 39 fifties. In Tests, he scored 2,315 runs across 34 matches with seven centuries and five half-centuries. His T20I career included 68 appearances, where he made 1,759 runs, including 11 half-centuries.
