Shreyas Iyer Shares Emotional Moment From Champions Trophy 2025 That Left Him in Tears

April 8, 2025: Shreyas Iyer, captain of Punjab Kings, is relishing his leadership role this IPL season, having led his team to two wins out of three matches played so far in the 2025 IPL.

Recently, Iyer appeared on “Kandid with Kings,” an in-house podcast series by Punjab Kings, where he shared insights into both his cricket career and personal life with host Sahiba Bali.

One memorable moment Iyer opened up about was from the 2025 Champions Trophy, where he got emotional during a practice session. Reflecting on the experience, he revealed, “The last time I cried properly was during the first practice session of the Champions Trophy because I could not bat well in the nets. I had performed well in the England series and was expecting to continue in that flow. But the conditions in Dubai were different, and adapting quickly was hard. I was frustrated when I couldn’t do extra batting after the session and ended up crying out of anger.”

On a more personal note, Iyer also shared how close he is with his family, especially his parents. He revealed how they continue to accompany him to the airport for his travels, a gesture he cherishes. “I am very close to my family. My mom and dad still come and drop me at the airport. I used to feel nervous in the beginning and told them to stay back, but now I realize they want to come and enjoy, and I’m absolutely fine with it,” said the 2024 IPL-winning captain.

As Punjab Kings prepare for their upcoming match against Chennai Super Kings at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, Iyer’s leadership and strong bond with his family continue to be key elements in his successful career.
