Shubman Gill to Lead India in ODIs? Viral X Post Claims Rohit Sharma Ousted!
July 12, 2025: Following a sharp decline in form in the format, Rohit Sharma‘s exit from Test cricket was inevitable. Before the England tour, Rohit left the format after a bad tour of Australia. Although he guided India to numerous historic victories, Rohit’s aura in white-ball cricket was not matched by his Test record as a batter. Rohit regularly produced exceptional performances in ODIs, even during his low points in red-ball cricket.
Both Rohit and Virat Kohli made the decision to continue playing ODIs in anticipation of the 2027 World Cup.
It was widely assumed that Rohit Sharma would continue to captain India in ODIs because to his outstanding record. However, a well-known journalist’s viral X post stated that Shubman Gill would captain the side in the upcoming ODI series. Gill took over as Team India’s captain during Test matches, and the post states that he will also take Rohit’s place during ODIs. On social media, the post went viral, sparking a discussion on whether this would be a wise decision. While some people were shocked, others were in favor of it.
When Will Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Return?
In the meantime, the BCCI and BCB mutually decided to postpone the ODI series against Bangladesh until next year, even though Rohit and Kohli were scheduled to rejoin in September. When the Men in Blue go on a white ball series tour to Australia in November, the veterans will play for India once again. India will only play a few One-Day Internationals (ODIs) before to the World Cup, therefore it will be difficult for the greats to stay healthy and in form in order to qualify for the main event. Many people think that Rohit and Kohli won’t be picked for the 2027 World Cup team.
