February 16, 2025:Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a thrilling two-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Saturday, with the match providing plenty of drama and excitement. DC successfully chased down a target of 165 in a nail-biting finish, wrapping up the game with just one ball to spare.
MI’s innings was marked by a collapse, as they were bowled out for 164 in 19.1 overs, failing to complete their full 20 overs, which ultimately proved to be a costly mistake. Former West Indian cricketer Stacy-Ann King, speaking on JioHotstar, highlighted the critical error in MI’s batting strategy. “When Harmanpreet spoke, she mentioned that those five balls where MI didn’t bat the full 20 overs were a critical mistake. Even scoring a single run in that phase could have made a difference,” King pointed out.

Despite MI’s batting woes, their bowlers fought hard, with Hayley Matthews playing a key role in dismissing crucial DC batters like Shafali Verma and Sarah Taylor. However, Matthews’ earlier 15-run concession before those breakthroughs allowed DC to keep their chase alive.
In the chase, DC were in trouble at 109/5 in 14.5 overs, despite a strong 60-run opening stand. But Niki Prasad and Sarah Taylor took charge, keeping the required runs within reach. Heading into the final over, DC needed 10 runs, with wickets falling at the other end. The game came down to the final ball, with just two runs needed. Arundhati Reddy and Radha Yadav completed a risky but successful double, securing a memorable win for DC.
Stacy-Ann King noted that MI should reassess their approach, especially in handling their spinners, following the loss. Nonetheless, DC’s victory was a testament to their resilience, and the thrilling finish kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
