Stuart Law Appointed As Head Coach Of Nepal Cricket Team

March 29, 2025: Stuart Law, the former Australian batter, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Nepal Senior Cricket Team. This announcement came on Saturday following the departure of Monty Desai in February earlier this year. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) made the official announcement on social media late on Friday, March 28, confirming that Law would lead the team for the next two years.

Law steps into this role after a successful coaching stint with the USA men’s team, where he made a significant impact. During his seven-month tenure, Law guided the USA to a historic performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Under his leadership, the USA pulled off a surprising upset against Pakistan in the group stage and secured a victory over Canada, propelling them into the Super Eight stage of the tournament.

The 56-year-old Australian, who represented his country in 55 international matches between 1994 and 1999, brings a wealth of coaching experience. He has previously worked with teams such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, Afghanistan, and the USA at the international level. His experience and success in coaching at various levels make him a valuable asset to Nepal’s cricketing ambitions.

Law’s first major challenge with Nepal will be the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series in June. Nepal will face Scotland and the Netherlands in this crucial competition. Currently, Nepal is positioned 7th among the eight teams in the tournament, having won only two out of 12 matches. The top four teams from the competition, which runs until December 2026, will qualify for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 Qualifier stage, while the bottom four will have to compete in a Qualifier Play-off.

Nepal has been striving for recognition in international cricket since its maiden appearance at the ICC World Twenty20 in 2014. Since 1996, they have participated in numerous global events, including the ICC World Cup Qualifiers and the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers. Under Stuart Law’s guidance, the Nepal cricket team hopes to improve its performance and make a mark in the coming years.
