He admitted that the decision was tough, but he had no regrets, acknowledging that he had made the right call for himself and for the team. Chhetri’s legendary status in Indian football is unquestionable. His remarkable career, which began in 2002 at Mohun Bagan, saw him achieve numerous victories with the national team, including multiple SAFF Championships, Nehru Cups, and the historic 2008 AFC Challenge Cup. He also led India to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup for the first time in 27 years. Chhetri’s 94 goals in 150 international appearances make him one of the top goal-scorers in international football, and his leadership, skill, and commitment to Indian football have earned him widespread recognition, including the Arjuna Award, Padma Shri, and the Khel Ratna Award.
