The dynamic batter joins elite company with explosive 27 as Mumbai Indians register dominant 8-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders
Mumbai, April 1:
Suryakumar Yadav added another major feather to his already illustrious T20 cap by becoming only the fifth Indian player to surpass 8000 runs in the format. The milestone came during Mumbai Indians’ commanding 8-wicket victory over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Coming in during the final stretch of the chase, Suryakumar lit up the stadium with a breathtaking cameo — 27 off just 9 deliveries*, featuring three fours and two sixes, finishing the game with a flourish and a strike rate of 300.
With this knock, Suryakumar joined the elite league of Indian T20 batting giants:
- Virat Kohli – 12,976 runs
- Rohit Sharma – 11,851 runs
- Shikhar Dhawan – 9,797 runs
- Suresh Raina – 8,654 runs
The match itself was one-sided as Mumbai Indians bounced back from a two-match losing streak with authority. KKR were bundled out for just 116, thanks largely to a dream debut by 23-year-old left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar, who picked up 4 wickets for 24 runs and left the KKR lineup in disarray.
In response, Ryan Rickelton anchored the chase with a fluent 62 off 41 balls*, while Will Jacks and Rohit Sharma provided the platform with a solid start.
Suryakumar’s explosive finish not only sealed MI’s first win of the season but also made it MI’s 24th win over KKR — the most by any team against a single opponent in IPL history. Additionally, it was MI’s 10th win over KKR at the Wankhede, another IPL record for dominance at a home venue.
The victory reasserts MI’s reputation as a team that knows how to bounce back when it matters — and for Suryakumar, it was a reminder to the cricketing world of just how lethal he can be with the bat in hand.
