Suryakumar Yadav Targets "Olympic Glory" After World Cup Triumph
While legendary captains of the past have often used World Cup glory as a cue to “walk off into the sunset,” Suryakumar Yadav is taking a different path. Hours after lifting the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy following a 96-run victory over New Zealand, the 35-year-old captain made a bold declaration: his mission with the Indian team is far from over.
Addressing a packed press conference at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Yadav confirmed that he intends to lead India into the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, marking a rare era of captaincy longevity in the modern T20 format.
Unlike Rohit Sharma, who retired from the format immediately after the 2024 win, Suryakumar is doubling down on his commitment to the national side.
Cricket’s return to the Olympic stage after a 128-year hiatus (since 1900) will follow a highly exclusive format dictated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
For the millions of fans back in India, the Olympic schedule will require some early mornings and late nights:
| Achievement | Year | Significance |
| T20 World Cup Winner | 2024 / 2026 | Part of the back-to-back historic defense. |
| World Cup Winning Captain | 2026 | Joins Kapil Dev, Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma. |
| Olympic Target | 2028 | Aiming to be the first Indian captain to win Olympic Gold. |
