“Talent Doesn’t Win You Games,” says Commanders’ Zach Ertz

July 27, 2025: Zach Ertz, a tight end with the Washington Commanders, is 35 years old this season. He is one of a group of experienced players on the team who all have the same goal: to win a title. Ertz was a reliable target for quarterback Jayden Daniels last season, receiving seven touchdowns. However, he is now focused on the future.

“At the end of the day, this team is brand new this year. “I don’t want to talk about last year anymore,” Ertz said. “We all need to improve. “We’ve let ourselves down a lot if we’re the same team we were last year.”

Ertz, who re-signed with the Commanders last fall, is starting his 13th NFL season and has won a Super Bowl. He certainly knows how to win a title.

“I’ve worked with some very talented teams. He said, “I think this is a talented team, but in this league, talent doesn’t really win games.” “We want to know how we can get better as a unit, on offense, defense, and special teams, and as a whole team.”

Dan Quinn, the head coach, is quite impressed with how Ertz goes about things. “How do we find ways to do it better?” is a championship mindset. “I had high hopes for what it would be like to coach Zach, and he has far exceeded them,” Quinn said.

Ertz shows that he wants to get better in practice. “I work on my stance and starts at the beginning of every practice,” he stated. “Work on my press releases because I think that once I’m in my routes, no one can really cover me.”

Ertz started all 17 regular season games for the Commanders last year. This was the first time he had done so since 2018. He made it plain that he wanted another long, successful season this year after playing deep into January last year.
