Temba Bavuma Praises Breetzke’s Debut Century Despite South Africa’s Loss To New Zealand

February 11, 2025: South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, acknowledged the positives despite his team’s six-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the ODI Tri-Series 2025. Bavuma particularly praised debutant Matthew Breetzke, who scored an impressive 150, highlighting the talent of the young player.

Bavuma reflected on the challenges of the match, noting that the South African batsmen struggled against the new ball but found the conditions easier once the initial phase passed. He also emphasized the need for improved performances in both batting and bowling for future games.

“The team has to up our game,” Bavuma said, underlining the quick turnaround and the need for better all-around contributions. He expressed confidence in Breetzke’s future in international cricket, calling him one to watch in all formats.
