July 23, 2025 – The Houston Texans are kicking off their first training camp practice on Wednesday with a significant portion of their roster sidelined, as the team announced a series of moves placing players on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) and Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) lists.

Star running back Joe Mixon has been placed on the NFI list. He’s joined by cornerback Alijah Huzzie on the NFI list, which is for players who sustained injuries or illnesses outside of football activities.

The backfield will also be thin to start camp, with running backs Dameon Pierce and J.J. Taylor both landing on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Players on the PUP list have football-related injuries that prevent them from practicing at the start of camp.

In total, 10 other players are starting camp on the PUP list:

  • Defensive end Denico Autry
  • Defensive end Derek Barnett
  • Offensive tackle Trent Brown
  • Center Eli Cox
  • Wide receiver Tank Dell
  • Defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi
  • Defensive tackle Kurt Hinish
  • Linebacker K.C. Ossai
  • Defensive back Jimmie Ward

All 13 players on either the NFI or PUP lists can be activated at any point during training camp once they are medically cleared.

In a related roster move, the Texans announced they have waived rookie cornerback Keydrain Calligan to make room for the veteran addition of Arthur Maulet.

The high number of players starting camp on injured lists means the Texans will be looking for healthy players to step up and make an impression early in practice as they prepare for the upcoming season.
