"There’s No Better Feeling Than Winning Titles" - KL Rahul on Champions Trophy Triumph
New Delhi, March 11: Indian wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul expressed his joy over India's four-wicket victory against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, stating that winning titles is the best feeling in cricket and that his focus is on securing as many championships as possible.
"I don’t think there’s a better feeling than this. I had said in an interview a couple of months ago—my entire focus from now on is to win as many titles as possible," Rahul told Star Sports.
India clinched their third ICC Champions Trophy title on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium, adding another feather to their cap in global cricket. Skipper Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match for his match-winning 76 runs at the top. KL Rahul played a composed knock of 34, guiding India to the 252-run target in the final moments alongside Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja.*
Rahul heaped praise on Hardik Pandya, highlighting his ability to stay calm under pressure and his knack for finishing games.
"When he (Hardik) comes in, he’s very calm. He can play 5-6 dot balls, but the pressure is never on him—it’s on others. Having played with him for so many years, and especially in this tournament, I know that even if he takes a few balls, he’s always just two or three hits away from changing the game. He has worked hard on that ability, and when the team is under pressure, he knows exactly when to step up," Rahul said.
The wicketkeeper-batter also cherished the moment of finishing the final alongside Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, as the trio had previously fallen short in crucial games.
"We’ve done this a couple of times in this tournament, and it was special to be at the crease with him and Jadeja at the end. We’ve played together for many years and always came close but somehow missed out. This time, we finally got over the line," he added.
Rahul emerged as India’s lower-order anchor, finishing crucial games throughout the tournament. His 140 runs in four innings at a staggering average of 140.00 proved vital for India’s title-winning campaign. He also played a decisive role in the semi-final against Australia, where his unbeaten knock sealed India’s place in the final.
With India now celebrating another ICC triumph, KL Rahul remains determined to continue winning and playing match-winning knocks in high-pressure situations.
