This Is What Travis Head Says About Legends Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma

Australian opener Travis Head sparked a debate after calling Virat Kohli the ‘greatest white-ball player’ and adding that Rohit Sharma is a close second.

October 17, 2025: superstar opener Travis Head has heaped massive praise on Indian legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, calling the duo “two of the great white-ball players” and endorsing their continued presence in ODI cricket until the 2027 World Cup.

Speaking at a joint press conference with India’s all-rounder Axar Patel ahead of the three-match ODI series, which begins this Sunday in Perth, Head singled out Kohli for the ultimate compliment.

“Virat is probably the greatest white-ball player. Rohit is probably not far behind,” Head told the media on Friday.

Head Backs Duo for 2027 World Cup

The discussion around Kohli and Rohit’s future in the 50-over format has been a major talking point in India, especially since their return to the national side for the first time since the 2025 Champions Trophy, and their subsequent retirements from Test and T20I cricket. Given their age, the series in Australia is widely speculated to be their last Down Under.

However, Head believes both veteran stars have plenty left in the tank.

“As someone who opens the batting in the same format, I have huge regard for what Rohit has been able to do,” Head stated. He then gave a cheeky look to Axar Patel as he added, “I am sure they will be missed at some stage, but I think they both are going until 2027—aren’t they? It is great for the game that they are still playing the format.”

Axar Patel: “They Are Ready to Go”

Responding to questions about the veterans’ preparedness, Axar Patel affirmed that both Kohli and Rohit are fully focused and ready for the challenge.

“They are world-class players. They know what to do, and they are ready to go. They are professionals and they know what to do,” Axar said, allaying any concerns about their form after a short break from international cricket. “If you speak about their form, they have been preparing well, hence I think they are ready… Everyone has given their fitness Test, they are raring to go now,” he added.

Both Kohli and Rohit boast stellar ODI records in Australia. Kohli has accumulated 1327 runs in 29 innings here, featuring five centuries and six fifties, at an average of 51.04. Rohit’s record is marginally ahead with 1328 runs in 30 innings, four centuries, and an average of 53.12.

The three-match ODI series is set to kick off in Perth this Sunday, followed by matches in Adelaide and Sydney, marking a much-anticipated return to action for India’s two most decorated white-ball cricketers.
