February 2, 2025: Tim Southee, former New Zealand cricketer, has named Kane Williamson and Travis Head as his top picks to be the highest run-scorers in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which is set to begin on February 19.
Southee praised Williamson’s adaptability across different conditions, stating that the New Zealand captain’s ability to adjust to various pitches and his stellar one-day record make him a key contender. Williamson has scored 6,810 runs in 165 ODIs with an impressive average of 48.64, including 13 centuries and 45 fifties. His performance in past Champions Trophy editions has been remarkable, amassing 345 runs in six innings at an average of 69.00.
Regarding Travis Head, Southee highlighted the Australian’s recent success, particularly his standout performances in the last ODI World Cup. Head has proven to be a dangerous player, with a striking batting style that suits the conditions expected in Pakistan. Since his ODI debut in 2016, Head has scored 2,645 runs in 69 matches, boasting an average of 44.08 and a strike rate over 104, including six centuries.
Southee’s predictions align with both players’ current form and consistent performances in ODIs. New Zealand will face Pakistan in their opening match on February 19, while Australia will begin their campaign against England on February 22.
