Even after hanging up his boots in 2024, Toni Kroos continues to live on in the hearts of Real Madrid fans — and his latest statements have only reignited hopes of a future reunion. The German midfield legend has openly shared his emotional connection with the club and suggested that a return to Santiago Bernabéu in some form may not be out of the question.
Recently speaking from Germany, Kroos confessed,
“Given my closeness to Real Madrid and my relationship with them, I would never rule out doing something for the club at some point in the future.”
Though he retired from professional football just a year ago, Kroos was seen participating in a friendly match against Borussia Dortmund, proving he’s still in top physical shape. Fans have even begun to dream of him possibly returning to the pitch — perhaps under Xabi Alonso, should the current Bayer Leverkusen manager one day lead Real Madrid.
As of now, Kroos hasn’t specified what role he could take on, but several possibilities exist. With open positions in the club’s global ambassador program, youth academy, and more, a return to the Madrid ecosystem feels inevitable. Notably, Kroos already runs his own youth academy in Madrid, which has connected him to the next generation of players — even before his official retirement.
The 2014 World Cup winner also made headlines for attending the farewells of Luka Modrić and Carlo Ancelotti, two figures who deeply influenced his Real Madrid journey.
“When I learned of Modric’s decision to leave, along with Carlo’s — under whose orders I played for years — I wanted to be with them. It was necessary to show respect for everything they achieved,” said Kroos.

More than just a club for him, Madrid is home. Kroos revealed that although he and his family had plans to return to Germany when he first arrived in 2014 — even beginning construction on a house — they eventually felt more and more at ease in the Spanish capital.
“We were welcomed with open arms. That matters on the pitch. If you feel welcome, it’s easier to perform. The plan now is to stay here. We’ve found a home — and the club of my life,” he said.
Whether as a coach, mentor, or ambassador, it seems only a matter of time before Toni Kroos officially rejoins the Real Madrid family.
