Tottenham Appoints Thomas Frank as New Head Coach After Postecoglou’s Exit

Danish tactician Thomas Frank signs with Spurs until 2028, taking charge after Postecoglou’s sacking despite a Europa League triumph.

Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced Thomas Frank as their new head coach, following the departure of Ange Postecoglou. Frank, who leaves Brentford after a transformative seven-year spell, has signed a contract with Spurs that runs until 2028.

Despite leading Tottenham to a historic Europa League victory, Postecoglou was sacked following Spurs’ worst-ever Premier League campaign—finishing 17th with just 38 points and 22 defeats.

“In Thomas we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game. He has a proven track record in player and squad development, and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead,” Tottenham said in a statement.

Frank will not be alone in his move. He brings with him a trusted backroom staff including assistant coach Justin Cochrane, head of performance and assistant coach Chris Haslam, and first team coach analyst Joe Newton from Brentford. Additionally, Andreas Georgson, formerly of Manchester United, joins as a first team assistant coach.

Frank, 51, faces a significant challenge as he steps into a Tottenham side in need of major rebuilding. However, the Dane will have an early chance to claim silverware when Spurs face Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13 in Udine, Italy.

Brentford’s director of football Phil Giles offered high praise for Frank following his departure:
“It has been a pleasure working alongside Thomas. From the moment he replaced Dean Smith, he understood what we were trying to build and his wisdom, coaching ability and emotional intelligence have helped transform the club.”

Giles continued, “There have been so many special moments with Thomas, including the play-off final at Wembley and our first-ever Premier League game against Arsenal. While we will miss him dearly, we thank him and now look ahead with hope for a new chapter.”

Frank will reunite with Tottenham technical director Johan Lange, with whom he previously worked during their time at Lyngby in Denmark. In his final season at Brentford, Frank led the club to a 10th-place finish with 56 points—solidifying his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most astute managers.
