Ugly On-Field Brawl Erupts in Bangladesh vs South Africa Emerging Teams Match

May 29, 2025: A shocking on-field brawl broke out during a four-day Emerging Teams match between Bangladesh and South Africa in Dhaka, disrupting what was otherwise a routine contest. The incident, which occurred during Bangladesh’s batting innings, saw players from both sides physically clash in the middle of the pitch, leaving viewers and officials stunned.

The altercation was triggered following a fiery exchange between 22-year-old Bangladesh batter Ripon Mondol and 29-year-old South African pacer Tshepo Ntuli. According to ESPNcricinfo, tensions flared after Ripon struck a straight six off Ntuli’s delivery, prompting a glare from the bowler. As Ripon walked towards his partner between overs, Ntuli reportedly charged at him, escalating the situation rapidly.

What began as a heated stare-down quickly turned physical. Ntuli allegedly shoved Ripon, pulled at his helmet multiple times, and ignored the umpire’s attempts to intervene. Umpire Kamruzzaman tried to separate the two, but the scene turned chaotic as other South African players also appeared to enter the confrontation.

Three balls later, Ntuli reignited the tension by throwing the ball back aggressively at Ripon after bowling, an act the batter was forced to defend himself against.

“This is extreme, this is unacceptable. Normally we see verbal altercations in a cricket field but we don’t often see a fight. Ntuli struck Ripon’s helmet at one point,” said commentator Nabil Kaiser, who was on-air during the incident.

No immediate disciplinary action has been taken, but the match referee is set to file official reports with both the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA). Sanctions are expected after the governing bodies review the footage and statements.

This incident has raised serious concerns about player conduct in youth and development-level cricket, a platform meant to nurture future stars. As the cricketing world watches closely, all eyes will be on how the respective boards respond to maintain the spirit of the game.
