Stunning Jadeja-Sudharsan Relay Catch Shifts Momentum as India Battles England in Leeds Test

June 22, 2025: On Day 3 of the 1st Test between India and England at Headingley, Leeds, a sensational fielding effort by Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Sai Sudharsan turned the tide in India’s favor. The highlight came when Jamie Smith, who was looking dangerous on 40, was dismissed in spectacular fashion — not just by Prasidh Krishna’s short ball, but by one of the finest relay catches ever seen in Test cricket.

Smith attempted to pull a rising delivery but mistimed it, sending the ball towards deep square leg. Positioned near the boundary rope, Jadeja leapt to intercept the shot but, mid-air and off balance, tossed the ball inside before crossing the ropes. Sudharsan, sprinting in from deep, completed the catch with safe hands, earning instant applause from fans and players alike.

The brilliant piece of athleticism helped India grab a much-needed breakthrough just before the second new ball. At the fall of the wicket, England were 372/6 in reply to India’s first innings total of 471, with India holding a 99-run lead.

The video of the Jadeja-Sudharsan relay catch quickly went viral across social media, with fans and former cricketers hailing the duo’s coordination, presence of mind, and athletic brilliance.

Heartbreak for Harry Brook

Later in the session, Harry Brook fell agonizingly short of a century, dismissed for 99. His wicket came as another major breakthrough for India, with England reaching 405/7 after 89 overs — still trailing by 66 runs.

Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was India’s standout performer with the ball, claiming three key wickets including Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith, and Brook. While he was expensive in patches, Krishna’s ability to break crucial partnerships proved vital.

Jasprit Bumrah, effective earlier in the Test, went wicketless on Day 3 and left the field due to discomfort.

India had earlier posted a strong total of 471, powered by a captain’s knock of 147 from Shubman Gill. With England still trailing and India pushing for a lead, the match remains evenly poised heading into Day 4.
