Fifteen-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has finally opened up about his “blockbuster” face-off against India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah during the Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) clash in Guwahati.

On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the teenager admitted to being “a bit nervous” when facing the veteran bowler but credited his success to a simple mantra: focus on the ball, not the bowler. Sooryavanshi famously dominated the second over of the rain-curtailed match, smashing Bumrah for two massive sixes in just five deliveries.

The battle took place in an 11-over shootout where Sooryavanshi and his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, tore the MI attack apart. Describing his strategy, Vaibhav revealed that intense drills performed the day before the match gave him the “extra time” needed to tackle Bumrah’s pace. “It didn’t feel like much, sir,” he told RR’s social media handle. “I was just trying to focus on the ball… I tried to back my own game and play the ball instead of the name.” Though he was eventually dismissed for a blistering 39 off 13 balls by Shardul Thakur, his performance has already earned him a legendary salute from former MI captain Harbhajan Singh.

The Royals’ historic total of 150/3 proved too much for Mumbai, who fell short by 27 runs despite Hardik Pandya’s attempt to shift the blame toward his bowling unit. This sporting milestone comes during a week of high-octane entertainment news. While Sooryavanshi is being hailed as the next big thing in cricket.
