Kohli lights up the Wankhede with a 29-ball half-century in IPL 2025 as Royal Challengers Bengaluru take early control against Mumbai Indians. Jasprit Bumrah returns after injury.
April 7, 2025: Mumbai: Virat Kohli delivered a power-packed performance under the Wankhede lights, smashing a 29-ball fifty to steer Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a dominant position against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 20 of IPL 2025.
Chasing early momentum, Kohli launched Jasprit Bumrah over mid-wicket for six off the very first ball of his innings, setting the tone for an aggressive powerplay. He went on to hammer the MI bowling lineup, including spinners and pacers alike, as RCB surged to 95/2 after 9 overs.
The former RCB captain brought up his half-century with a towering six against Vignesh Puthur, reaching the milestone in just 29 deliveries. Along the way, he achieved a unique feat—becoming the first Indian cricketer to score 13,000 runs in T20 cricket.
Though Phil Salt departed early to Trent Boult, and Devdutt Padikkal fell after a couple of big hits, Kohli ensured the scoreboard kept ticking, supported briefly by skipper Rajat Patidar.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah returned to action after a three-month injury layoff but was unable to make a breakthrough in his opening spell. MI also welcomed back Rohit Sharma after missing the last game due to a knee issue.
Hardik Pandya, fresh off his maiden T20 five-wicket haul in the previous match, took the ball in hand during the middle overs in an attempt to stem the flow of runs.
With RCB posting their highest-ever powerplay score (73/1) against Mumbai Indians, the pressure remains firmly on the home side as Kohli continues to anchor the innings with poise and power.
