May 13, 2025: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the revised schedule for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season, with the T20 league set to resume on May 17. The opening fixture after the unexpected break will see Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash with Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The tournament was suspended for eight days last week following escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. One of the league matches — between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) — was even halted mid-game at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala as part of emergency safety measures. The floodlights were abruptly switched off after 10.1 overs and the stadium was swiftly evacuated. At the time, PBKS had reached an impressive 122/1, with Priyansh Arya hammering 70 off 34 balls and Prabhsimran Singh unbeaten on 50 from 28 deliveries.

The match, however, will not resume from the point it was stopped. Instead, it will be replayed in full on May 24 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The players and support staff of both teams were relocated to New Delhi via a special train as the Dharamsala airport had been shut due to the conflict.

Following the declaration of a ceasefire, the BCCI worked closely with government officials and IPL stakeholders to restart the tournament safely. There are 17 matches left, including three playoff games and the final, which is now scheduled for June 3.

Meanwhile, several overseas players had flown back home during the suspension. Franchises are now contacting them to return for the remainder of the season, adding another layer of logistical complexity to the IPL’s resumption.

The remaining league matches will be held across six venues, ensuring the tournament wraps up on schedule and sets the stage for a thrilling finish.
