WPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Minnu Mani Reflects On Dominant Win Over Mumbai Indians
March 1, 2025: In a dominant performance, Delhi Capitals registered a commanding nine-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in their sixth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.
Mumbai Indians were restricted to a modest total of 123/9 in 20 overs, thanks to brilliant bowling by Minnu Mani and Jess Jonassen, who both claimed three wickets each. Delhi Capitals chased down the target effortlessly in just 14.3 overs, with captain Meg Lanning playing a stellar knock of 60* off 49 balls, supported by Shafali Verma’s quick-fire 43 off 28 balls.
This victory propelled Delhi Capitals to the top of the points table with four wins, two losses, and eight points.
Reflecting on the win, Mani, who took impressive figures of 3/17 in her three overs, highlighted the team’s all-around performance. “The efforts of the entire team came together nicely on the field. We always keep things simple and stick to our plans in every match. Whatever strategies we make, we ensure they are executed well on the ground. It was the same approach today, nothing new,” she said.
Mani, hailing from Wayanad, Kerala, has been with Delhi Capitals since the start of the WPL. She made her T20I debut in the same year and became the first woman from Kerala to represent India. On her journey so far, Mani credited the senior players for their guidance, especially in improving her bowling. “The senior players in the team have been very helpful. Compared to my first and second year, my bowling has improved a lot. They have guided me on how to bowl according to the situation and the batters, what kind of length and line to use, when to make changes, and how to adapt. I’ve learned all these things from them, including how to manage myself during the game,” she explained.
On playing under the leadership of Meg Lanning, Mani expressed her admiration, saying, “I admire Meg Lanning a lot, and playing under her has helped me learn so many new things. She is always supportive of all the players, both on and off the field. Whenever we discuss something or ask her for advice, she always has plenty of insights and ideas to share. It has been a truly special experience to play alongside her.”
After completing a double over Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals now set their sights on their next challenge: facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The team will be the first in the WPL to play on consecutive nights, and they will be looking to end their Bengaluru leg with another win, further cementing their position at the top of the points table.
