WPL 2025: Ellyse Perry Reflects On RCB’s “Tricky” Season After Final League Stage Victory

March 12, 2025: Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final league stage Women’s Premier League (WPL) match, star batter Ellyse Perry spoke about the team’s up-and-down season. Despite a rollercoaster ride that saw them lose five consecutive games after a strong start with two wins, RCB managed to end on a high note with a victory in their final group match.

In a thrilling match at Lucknow, RCB successfully defended 199, leaving MI struggling. The win also benefited Delhi Capitals (DC), ensuring they remained at the top and directly qualified for the final, marking their third consecutive appearance in the championship match.

Reflecting on the season in an interview with JioHotstar, Perry described the season as “tricky,” citing the team’s initial strong performances and a mid-season slump. “We started with some really strong wins and ended on a high note with another victory tonight. But in between, we lost some close games and had a few performances that weren’t up to our standards, which is a bit disappointing,” she said. “That said, it has been an incredibly enjoyable season in an amazing competition.”

Perry also shared how playing for RCB has been a “fantastic experience,” highlighting the immense support from fans, especially in Bengaluru. “The support we receive, particularly in Bengaluru, has been incredible, but it has been equally enjoyable to see fans turning up for us across different venues,” she noted. While Chinnaswamy Stadium remains special, Perry enjoyed playing at various venues throughout the tournament, from Baroda to Mumbai and Lucknow.

As the team’s top run-scorer, Perry finished the season with an impressive 372 runs in 8 matches, averaging 93.00 with a strike rate of 148.80. Her season included four half-centuries, with her highest score being an unbeaten 90*.

Despite RCB’s fourth-place finish, Perry’s performances have been a major highlight of the season, and her leadership and resilience have made her a standout player in this year’s WPL.
