March 15, 2025: Ahead of the highly anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 final between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on Saturday, Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hayley Matthews shared her excitement about the upcoming match and expressed her hopes of repeating the success they achieved in the inaugural 2023 season. In that season, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by seven wickets to clinch the title.
Hayley Matthews, who has been in outstanding form this season, is the purple cap holder with 17 wickets and is also the third-highest run-scorer with 304 runs in the nine matches of the tournament. Speaking ahead of the final, Matthews expressed her confidence, saying, “Feeling really good. It was the goal to get here into the finals. We got a lot of good memories from the first season here winning it, so hopefully, we can repeat those same memories and make some new ones at the same time.”

The Mumbai Indians team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will face Delhi Capitals, captained by Meg Lanning, at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Delhi Capitals directly qualified for the final by topping the league stage, with 10 points from five wins and three losses. However, they head into the final after suffering a loss to Gujarat Giants in their last league game.
Mumbai Indians finished second in the WPL standings, trailing Delhi Capitals on Net Run Rate (NRR), but they will head into the final with confidence after defeating Gujarat Giants by 47 runs in the eliminator on Thursday.
Both teams have met seven times in the WPL, with Delhi leading 4-3 in the head-to-head matchups. The Capitals also won both league-stage clashes this season, making Saturday’s final even more intriguing as both sides look to claim the WPL 2025 trophy.
With key players like Matthews, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Amelia Kerr in fine form, the final promises to be a thrilling contest. Fans are eagerly awaiting what could be another exciting chapter in the rapidly growing Women’s Premier League.
