February 20, 2025: Delhi Capitals, led by Meg Lanning, claimed a convincing seven-wicket win over UP Warriorz in their third match of WPL 2025. This victory helped them finish the Vadodara leg with two wins and one loss.

After opting to bowl first, Delhi Capitals restricted UP Warriorz to 166/7 in their 20 overs. Lanning then anchored the chase with a brilliant 69 off 49 balls, leading her team toward the target. Key contributions came from Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp, with Kapp’s last-over heroics sealing the win.

Reflecting on the match, Lanning expressed her satisfaction with the team’s bounce-back performance, especially after their loss to RCB. She said, “It was nice to bounce back as a team. We probably didn’t put our best effort out the other night, but we had the opportunity to put our best foot forward in this match and we did that.”

Lanning also praised Sutherland for her match-winning all-round display. Sutherland took 2/26 in four overs and followed it up with an unbeaten 41 off 35 balls to guide her team home. “Annabel was outstanding with the ball, getting early breakthroughs when we were under pressure. Later, she held her nerves while batting, allowing Marizanne Kapp to come in and play with freedom,” Lanning said.

The opening partnership between Lanning and Shafali Verma provided the perfect start, with the two adding 65 runs in just 6.5 overs. Verma’s brisk 26 off 16 balls gave the team a solid foundation. Lanning lauded the Indian opener’s impact on the game, saying, “Shafali just knows one way, and that is to give a quick start. It plays a really important role in setting up the innings early.”

With this victory, Delhi Capitals move forward in the tournament, with the next match against UP Warriorz scheduled in Bengaluru on Saturday.
