WPL 2025: Mithali Raj Praises Nat Sciver-Brunt's Match-Winning Knock Against Gujarat Giants
February 19, 2025: Former Indian captain Mithali Raj has praised the exceptional batting performance of Nat Sciver-Brunt in the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025. The Mumbai Indians star delivered a scintillating 57-run knock from 39 balls, including 11 boundaries, with a strike rate of 146.15 in the match against Gujarat Giants. This remarkable performance marked her second consecutive fifty in the ongoing season.
Sciver-Brunt’s form has been nothing short of impressive. She had earlier played an unbeaten knock of 80 runs off 59 balls against Delhi Capitals in the WPL opener, which featured 13 fours and a strike rate of 135.59.
Mithali Raj, speaking on JioHotstar, expressed her admiration for Sciver-Brunt’s all-round performance, saying, “Nat Sciver-Brunt is having a fantastic season, both with the ball and the bat. This was her second fifty of the season, and she played with great assurance, displaying her signature shots. The moment she walks in, you can tell she is in top form."
Raj also highlighted Sciver-Brunt's impact with the ball, where she took the key wicket of Beth Mooney, a consistent performer for Gujarat Giants. “With the ball, she made an impact early, sharing the new-ball responsibilities with Shabnim Ismail and delivering a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Beth Mooney. That was a significant moment in the match,” Raj said.
Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, emerged victorious in the match against Gujarat Giants at Kotambi Stadium, claiming a five-wicket win. The victory maintained Mumbai's perfect record against the Giants, having won all five of their encounters, all while chasing targets.
Looking ahead, Mumbai Indians will face defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru on February 21, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Fans are excited to see if Mumbai can continue their strong form and challenge for the WPL 2025 title.
