WPL 2025 Opener: RCB Shatter Records With Thrashing Victory Over Gujarat Giants

February 15, 2025: The 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season opener certainly delivered an exciting and record-breaking game! Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) made an impressive start to their campaign with a thrilling six-wicket win over Gujarat Giants. Their chase of 202 runs marked the highest target ever successfully chased in WPL history, surpassing the previous record of 191 runs set by Mumbai Indians in 2024.

The match was full of high-scoring moments, with the total aggregate of 403 runs being the highest ever recorded in a WPL match, overtaking the 391-run aggregate from the RCB vs Gujarat Giants match in 2023. The standout performances came from Ellyse Perry’s half-century and the explosive ball-striking from Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja in the death overs, which propelled RCB to victory.

Additionally, the 93-run partnership between Ghosh and Ahuja became the third-highest partnership for RCB in WPL history. The match also featured 16 sixes, which is the second-most in a WPL game, only behind the 19 sixes hit in RCB’s match against DC in 2024.

It was a spectacular opener, filled with big hitting and memorable performances! What are your thoughts on the match or the season so far?
