WPL 2025: UP Warriorz Set to Begin Campaign With Deepti Sharma At The Helm

February 15, 2025: The UP Warriorz are all set for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season 3, with their preparations in full swing. The team will begin their campaign on February 16, 2025, facing the Gujarat Giants in Vadodara. This season marks an exciting milestone for the franchise as they will play their home games in Lucknow for the first time during phase three of the tournament.

Under the captaincy of Deepti Sharma, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, and with experienced coach Jon Lewis at the helm, the UP Warriorz are looking to make a strong impression. The team boasts a formidable bowling attack, especially in the spin department, which is considered one of the most dangerous in the competition. Leading the spin charge are Sophie Ecclestone, the WPL’s highest wicket-taker, and Deepti Sharma, India’s leading bowler in the format. Other key spinners include Alana King, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Gouher Sultana.

On the pace front, the emergence of Saima Thakor has added depth to the attack, alongside experienced bowlers like Anjali Sarvani and Kranti Goud, who has impressed in domestic competitions.

The batting line-up is another strength, with Sri Lankan Chamari Athapaththu, Australians Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris, and Indian players like Deepti Sharma and Kiran Navgire, all capable of scoring quickly in the T20 format. Deepti, who was the MVP in season 2, is expected to lead the batting charge, aiming to continue her attacking approach that made her a key player in the previous season.

However, the team will need to work on its fielding, an area that caused concern in the previous season. Additionally, staying injury-free will be crucial for the team’s success, especially for some of the younger, talented players.

The UP Warriorz squad for WPL 2025 includes Deepti Sharma (C), Uma Chetry (WK), Chinelle Henry, Poonam Khamnar, Kiran Navgire, Dinesh Vrinda, Chamari Athapaththu, Grace Harris, Alana King, Tahlia McGrath, Shweta Sehrawat, Anjali Sarvani, Sophie Ecclestone, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Saima Thakor, Arushi Goel, Kranti Goud, and Gouher Sultana.

With strong preparations and key players in form, the UP Warriorz are eager to start their journey in WPL season 3 and are aiming for a strong finish in the competition.
