Yashasvi Jaiswal Says He “Learnt A Lot” During Australia Test Tour

January 6, 2025: Young Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has shared his thoughts on his maiden tour of Australia during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The series, which began with a win for India in Perth, ended in disappointment as India failed to maintain momentum, leading to Australia’s first Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph in a decade. Australia’s last win in the series came in the 2014-15 edition.

While India had their chances, especially in the fifth Test at Sydney, they were unable to capitalize on key moments. India’s senior players, including Virat Kohli, struggled, with Kohli managing just 190 runs at an average of 23.75 over eight innings. The Indian team also suffered a significant blow with Jasprit Bumrah‘s injury, which hampered their performance in the crucial final sessions.

On a positive note, Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed with his performances, scoring 391 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 53.42 and an average of 43.44. Jaiswal also hit 44 fours and 4 sixes, showcasing his talent and resilience in challenging conditions.

Taking to Instagram, Jaiswal reflected on the experience, writing, “Learnt a lot in Australia… Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we had hoped for, but we’ll be back stronger. Your support means everything.” His determination and maturity beyond his years were evident as he acknowledged the setback but remained optimistic about India’s future.

India’s loss in the series also meant they missed out on a spot in the World Test Championship finals, adding further frustration to the tour.

Despite the disappointing result, Jaiswal’s performance will be remembered as a bright spot, and his learning experience in Australia is likely to serve him well as he continues his journey in international cricket.
