Yograj Singh Launches Fresh Attack On Kapil Dev, Accuses Him For Match-Fixing

Former cricketer Yograj Singh has reignited a decades-old controversy, publicly questioning why the 1997 match-fixing case against Kapil Dev was closed.

September 8, 2025: Yograj Singh, a former Indian cricketer and the father of famous all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has brought up a long-running argument by asking why the 1997 match-fixing case involving Kapil Dev was closed. Yograj said in a new verbal attack that the file was closed to preserve the names of “legends” in Indian cricket, namely Kapil Dev and Mohammad Azharuddin.

Yograj Singh told InsideSport, “Ask all the journalists, where is the file of match-fixing in the Supreme Court? Who was involved in manipulating the match? Kapil Dev’s name came up first, then Azharuddin’s, and a number of other players’ names. Why did they close that file and not open it again? Because a lot of famous people will lose their jobs.

Yograj Singh’s allegations are about a time in the late 1990s when former player Manoj Prabhakar said that Kapil Dev offered him money to play badly. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) looked into the claims in great depth. In its final report in 2000, it found no credible evidence against Kapil Dev and absolved him of all charges.

Yograj Singh has publicly gone against famous Indian cricketers before. He has a history of saying things that upset people. For example, he has criticized MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, and Bishan Singh Bedi for supposedly treating players badly and ruining their careers. Kapil Dev and Mohammad Azharuddin have not publicly commented to Yograj Singh’s current views on the issue, though.
