Yuvraj Singh Reveals Why He Ended His Career

In a moving episode of the YouTube podcast “Serving It Up With Sania,” former Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh opened up about the heavy emotional and mental toll of his final years in the sport.

Speaking with host Sania Mirza on January 28, 2026, Yuvraj described the exhaustion that led to his retirement in 2019 as more than just a lack of form.

“I Was Not Feeling Respected”: Key Revelations

Yuvraj, the 2011 World Cup hero, candidly shared that cricket had become a burden toward the end of his 19-year career.

  • The Obligation: He admitted that playing felt like a chore. “I was not enjoying my game. I had a feeling that why am I playing cricket when I’m not enjoying it?”
  • Lack of Support: He revealed a deep sense of disconnect from the team environment. “I was not feeling supported. I was not feeling respected. I can’t do more than this, mentally or physically.”
  • The Relief: He described the moment he decided to walk away as a return to his true self: “The day I stopped, I was myself again.”

On Childhood Doubts and Parental Pressure

The conversation also touched upon a formative memory from his teens:

  • The Talent Question: Yuvraj recalled a moment when a senior figure (implied to be an Indian great of that era) expressed doubt about his potential when he was 13 or 14.
  • Father’s Perspective: While Yuvraj views the comment through the lens of timing—believing the player simply didn’t have the time to watch him properly—he noted that his father, Yograj Singh, took the slight personally, which fueled the intense pressure of his early training.
