Sunil Gavaskar is on India’s tour to South Africa

Sunil Gavaskar, a former cricketer for India, stated that Rohit Sharma will have an opportunity to make up for the ODI World Cup 2023 final defeat during India’s current tour to South Africa. Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said that players like Virat and Rohit, who are seniors, have been playing at their peak for the past six to eight months. Gavaskar stated that the captain of India will be crucial in the long-format matches against the Proteas, specifically referring to the two-match Test series against South Africa.

“Over the past six to eight months, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have truly been at the top of their game. For India in the Test series, Rohit will be crucial. In order to position batters to follow him at three, four, and five, Rohit will be crucial. This is Rohit Sharma’s chance, whatever the outcome, to make up for the World Cup final defeat,” Gavaskar remarked. A three-match T20I series kicked off the all-format tour of South Africa on December 10 and will continue until December 14. The ODI leg of the series will begin on December 17 and end on December 21.

December 26 at Centurion will host the first Test match, and January 3 at Cape Town will host the second match. Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan (wk), KL Rahul (Wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Mohd. Shami*, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Prasidh Krishna are the members of India’s Test team.
The following players represent India in the three Twenty20 Internationals: Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Mohd. Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Jitesh Sharma, Mohd. Kishan, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (C), and Rinku Singh.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Tilak Varma, Rajat Patidar, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (C) (Wk), Sanju Samson (Wk), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, and Deepak Chahar are the members of the Indian squad for the three One-day Internationals.
