Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’ Trailer Reveals Actor’s Heroism Beyond the Cape

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the trailer for the eagerly awaited documentary ‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’, which offers an intimate portrayal of the actor who transcended his iconic role as Superman to become a real-life hero. Directed by Ian Bonhote and Peter Ettedgui, known for their acclaimed film ‘McQueen’, the documentary promises a deep dive into Reeve’s remarkable legacy beyond the silver screen.

Filmmaker James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, shared the trailer on his official Instagram account, adding to the excitement surrounding the release. The film chronicles Reeve’s journey from an aspiring actor to an international star, with a focus on his groundbreaking portrayal of Superman in the 1978 film and its subsequent sequels, which set a new standard for the character.

However, the documentary reveals that Reeve’s true heroism went far beyond his on-screen persona. The trailer highlights Reeve’s personal and professional struggles, particularly his life-altering horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Despite facing profound challenges, Reeve’s resilience and determination shone through as he became a passionate advocate for disability rights and care.

Featuring a treasure trove of previously unseen home movies and personal archives, the documentary offers a rare glimpse into Reeve’s private life. It includes the first extended interviews with Reeve’s three children, who share personal memories and reflections on their father’s extraordinary spirit.

Adding depth to the narrative, the film also includes interviews with some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Robin Williams, a close friend of Reeve, who provides heartfelt insights into Reeve’s character and impact.

Produced by Passion Pictures and Misfits Entertainment, and financed by Words + Pictures, ‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’ is a collaboration with DC Studios, HBO Documentary Films, CNN Films, and Words+Pictures. The documentary is set to premiere in theatres on September 21, with an encore presentation scheduled for September 25, which would have been Reeve’s birthday. An international release is expected, though the dates are yet to be announced.
