Suriya’s Kanguva Set for a Record-Breaking Opening with Estimated Rs 75 Crore Collection Worldwide

November 14, 2024: Suriya’s long-awaited return to the big screen, Kanguva, hits theaters today, November 14. Fans have eagerly awaited this solo release from the Tamil superstar, whose last major outing was in 2022 with Etharkkum Thunindhavan. Since then, Suriya has captivated audiences with a few cameo roles, including his powerful performance as Rolex in Kamal Haasan’s Vikram. With Kanguva, he is ready to bring back the magic of a full-length feature film after his critically acclaimed hits Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim.

With a Rs 75 crore estimated worldwide collection for its opening day, Kanguva is anticipated to be Suriya’s biggest box-office debut to date. Despite some hurdles in the pre-release booking due to financial and legal issues surrounding producer Gnanavel Raja, the film has generated significant buzz, especially in Tamil Nadu and the Telugu-speaking regions. Trade experts, however, remain cautious about the film’s potential to reach the ambitious Rs 2000 crore milestone touted by the producers.

According to film trade analyst Ramesh Bala, while Tamil Nadu bookings have shown promising signs, the overseas market response has been moderate. He estimates that Kanguva could bring in about Rs 20 crore in Tamil Nadu on Day 1, setting a new personal best for Suriya despite competing releases like Amaran and Gladiator II in key regions.

The movie’s strong promotional efforts in Andhra Pradesh have given it a slight edge, with expectations that it will perform well, although screen availability remains an issue due to other local releases still holding strong. Trade experts predict that if early reviews are positive, Kanguva could see a surge in weekend box-office numbers.
