Suryakumar Yadav Backs Ruturaj’s Potential as India Prepares for T20I Series

Durban [South Africa], November 8, 2024: Ahead of India’s opening T20I match against South Africa in Durban, Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav showed strong faith in the abilities of young opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is currently representing India A in a series against Australia A. Yadav expressed confidence that Gaikwad’s time to shine in the senior T20I squad will come soon.

“Ruturaj is a fantastic player. He’s been consistent across all formats he plays,” Yadav commented in the pre-match press conference. “There’s a process within the team, and he’s following it well. Given his performance and talent, I believe his time will come soon.”

Gaikwad, known for his stellar performances in the IPL and consistent form in domestic circuits, has scored 633 runs in 23 T20Is at an average of 39.56, including a century and four fifties, with a high score of 123*. Despite his impressive record, Gaikwad has not been included in the T20I squads for recent series against Bangladesh and now South Africa.

India Looks to Extend T20I Dominance in South Africa

The Indian team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, will kick off the South African tour with a four-match T20I series, beginning on Friday in Durban. The second match will be held at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha on November 10, followed by the third in Centurion on November 13, and the series finale at Wanderers Stadium on November 15.

With a young squad in tow, India aims to maintain its stronghold in T20Is, leveraging talent from emerging players such as Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma. Yadav’s leadership, paired with a roster of promising players, is expected to bring a competitive edge to the tour.
