Heavy monsoon rains and widespread waterlogging in Mumbai have prompted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to issue an alert over the rising risk of leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that spreads through floodwater contaminated with urine from infected animals.
As pre-monsoon rains sweep across several parts of India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms in multiple states. While the cool weather brings relief from the intense summer heat, getting drenched in rain without proper care can increase the chances of seasonal illnesses and infections.
